What’s my story?

Hello, my name is Rowenna and I am the founder of Hare Moon Films.

I am a filmmaker from the lovely Lancashire town of Burnley. I founded Hare Moon Films in 2020 to continue my development as a director and help people tell their stories, whether that’s highlighting a social issue or showcasing achievements in business and research.

Before filmmaking, I obtained a PhD in Sociology from the University of Warwick and then spent several years as a Social Science researcher in universities working on large EU-funded collaborative projects, which allowed me to hone my skills in interviewing.

In 2016, I decided to follow a new path that would allow me to combine my skills in social research, my love of film, and my belief that audiovisual media can be a powerful tool for sharing ideas. I decided to get formal training in filmmaking and went to study at the Northern Film School in Leeds, graduating in 2018 with an MA in Documentary Filmmaking.

On the film festival circuit, I have been delighted to win several awards for my short documentaries, including Best Female Director for my first film, 'Goodnight, Friend' (2018) and Best Short Film for We Are All Migrants’ (2019).
